Job summary

NV5 is seeking a Forensics Structural Engineer to join our team with a remote-capable role near Houston, TX. You will manage structural forensic assignments, conduct assessments, and prepare reports for clients including insurers, attorneys, and owners.

You will travel within approximately 150 miles of your office and collaborate with other NV5 offices. A PE license and strong knowledge of building codes are preferred, with opportunities to lead junior staff and develop complex litigation-driven

Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in Civil, Structural, or Architecture Engineering.
  • M.S. degree in Civil/Structural Engineering preferred.
  • PE license in Florida or ability to obtain within 6 months of start date.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate with clients before and after site visits and report production; review scopes and explain observations.
  • Perform on-site interviews to collect histories and data.
  • Photograph site conditions to explain observations and determine loss causes.
  • Review codes, standards, and research to formulate defensible conclusions for clients.
  • Maintain good project data management/storage practices.
  • Supervise, when appropriate, junior engineers in field work and report development.
  • Develop reports outlining site observations, applicable codes, findings, and conclusions.
  • Testify in legal proceedings when required.

Forensic Structural Engineer - Remote - Houston, TX

As our Forensics Structural Engineer, you will manage structural forensic engineering assignments, perform forensic engineering assessments, provide verbal/written reports for insurance carriers, attorneys, homeowners, property manager, etc.


You will also serve as an expert for multiple litigation cases. This requires constant travel within 150 miles of your office location and occasional travel for work with other NV5 office locations/staff or geographic regions.

Responsibilities


  • Communication with clients before and after site visit and post report production, to review/clarify scopes and explain observations and findings.

  • Perform on-site interviews with a variety of individuals to collect histories, data, concerns, etc.

  • Photograph site conditions with an eye to explain conditions and determining cause of loss.

  • Review codes, standards, research and apply critical formulation of facts to develop conclusions that assist clients resolve concerns and are defensible.

  • Maintain good project data management/storage practices.

  • Supervise, when appropriate, junior engineer (EI’s) in field work, report development, and research.

  • Develop reports that outline site observations, applicable codes, standards, findings, and conclusions.

  • Testify in legal proceeding, when required, in correlation to work product.


Requirements

If you possess the following experience & qualifications, then we encourage you to apply.



  • B.S. Degree in Civil, Structural, or Architecture Engineering.

  • M.S. Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering is preferred.



  • Residential and/or Commercial inspection & assessment experience is a plus.

  • Knowledge of building codes and standards and construction practices is required. Litigation experience is a plus.



  • Professional Engineering (PE) license in Florida, or ability to obtain one within 6 months of start date.
