Job summary

The City of Maypearl is seeking a crime scene investigator to provide technical support in documentation, collection, preservation, and analysis of physical evidence from crime scenes. You will photograph, sketch, and digitally record scene details, maintain chain-of-custody, and prepare detailed reports for investigators.

Requirements include a Bachelor’s degree in forensic science or related field, one year of CSI or forensic analysis preferred, and the ability to obtain IAI CSI certification

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in forensic science, biology, chemistry, criminal justice, or a related science field.
• One year of crime scene investigation or forensic analysis beneficial.
• Must be able to obtain a crime scene certification (IAI or equivalent) within 12 months of meeting IAI requirements for CSI certification.
• Hours vary and night and weekend hours are sometimes required.

Responsibilities

• Providing technical support in documentation, collection, preservation, and analysis of physical evidence from crime scenes.
• Photographing, sketching, and digitally recording scene details.
• Processing evidence for latent prints, biological material, and trace elements.
• Maintaining accurate chain-of-custody records and submitting findings to investigators.
• Assisting with lab-based forensic processing and evidence storage; testifying in court.
• Assisting with public education and departmental outreach as needed.
