Job summary

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited school of medicine.
• Completion of an internship program.
• Licensure as a physician by the State of Iowa.

Responsibilities

• Perform postmortem examinations to document injuries and determine cause and manner of death.
• Maintain complete and accurate records of all medicolegal investigations.
• Prepare timely, thorough autopsy reports using ancillary testing and consultations.
• Provide expert testimony in court and depositions regarding autopsy findings.
• Communicate autopsy results clearly to next of kin and authorities.
• Complete and certify death certificates and cremation permits.
• Advise and coordinate with county medical examiners and law enforcement on procedures.
