Job summary

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation's State Medical Examiner's Office in Decatur, GA is seeking an Associate Medical Examiner (Forensic Pathologist) to join our headquarters team. This role performs medicolegal autopsies and prepares examination reports for legal proceedings.

You will provide expert testimony, consult with law enforcement and attorneys, and work with regional offices in Pooler and Dry Branch. Board certification in Forensic Pathology is required or must be pursued.

Qualifications

• Must hold Georgia medical license or be eligible for licensure.
• Completion of Anatomic Pathology residency and Forensic Pathology fellowship from an accredited institution.
• Board certified by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic Pathology or Anatomic Pathology and Clinical Pathology.
• Board certified or eligible for certification by the American Board of Pathology in Forensic Pathology.

Responsibilities

• Performs medicolegal autopsies under the Georgia Death Investigation Act.
• Generates examination reports for dissemination in a timely and efficient manner.
• Provides expert courtroom and deposition testimony in judicial proceedings.
• Consults with law enforcement agencies and attorneys working within the criminal system.

Education

Medical Doctor licensed to practice in Georgia

Anatomic Pathology residency

Forensic Pathology fellowship

Board certification by American Board of Pathology in Anatomic Pathology OR Anatomic Pathology and Clinical Pathology

Board certification or eligible for Forensic Pathology
