City of New York seeks a City Medical Examiner (OCME) to lead forensic investigations of complex deaths in a city-wide system. The role involves autopsies, histology, toxicology, and documentation for official review.

Responsibilities include clinical supervision of junior examiners, testimony in court, and collaboration with law enforcement, courts, and governmental agencies. Applicants must have relevant ACGME residencies and board certification in forensic pathology.

Qualificações

• Two years of an ACGME residency in anatomic pathology, or three years in anatomic and clinical pathology with at least 30 autopsies.
• ACGME accredited residency in subspecialty field of anatomic/clinical pathology (or other medical specialty applicable to forensic medicine).
• Board certification in forensic pathology and/or subspecialty certification in a relevant field as described.

Responsabilidades

• Order the body to the Medical Examiner's Office for autopsy or related purposes.
• Perform autopsies when indicated and carry out histological examinations.
• Select organs and tissues for toxicology and serology testing.
• Prepare and file investigation reports with the Office of Chief Medical Examiner.
• Certify causes of sudden or violent deaths based on complete postmortem findings.
• Testify in court and before grand juries as an OCME official.
• Provide consultations in neuropathology/pediatric pathology as needed.
• Develop policies, methods, and techniques in death investigations.
• Supervise and teach City Medical Examiner I staff.
