Office of Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) in New York City seeks a City Medical Examiner II to lead confidential death investigations, supervise staff, and certify causes of death in complex cases. The role includes autopsies, histology, lab work, and collaboration with law enforcement.

Senior Medical Examiners may receive teaching differentials and increments after the first year. Applicants must meet NY license requirements and ACGME residency standards or equivalent.

Qualifications

• A valid license to practice medicine in New York State.
• Completion of one of the specified pathology residency paths or equivalent.
• For Assignment Level II, board certification in forensic pathology or equivalent, with applicable autopsy experience.

Responsabilités

• Order bodies for autopsy or other purposes as indicated.
• Perform autopsies when required and conduct histological exams.
• Select tissues for toxicology and serology tests, and prepare examination reports.
• Certify causes of sudden, unexpected, or violence-related deaths based on findings.
• Testify in court and provide consultations in neuropathology or pediatric pathology.
• Develop new policies and techniques for death investigations and collaborate with law enforcement.
