Job summary

McLeod Health is seeking a registered nurse with Forensic Nurse Examiner capabilities to join the team in Florence, SC. The role involves responding to sexual assault presentations in the Emergency Department, performing trauma-informed care, collecting evidence, and coordinating with law enforcement and advocacy partners.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse with one year nursing experience or prior care/management of victims.
  • Successful completion of 40-hour SANE training or equivalent.
  • Flexibility with work hours including evenings, nights, weekends, holidays and on-call hours.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and self-motivation.
  • Computer proficiency required for charting and data entry.

Responsibilities

  • Responds to notification of sexual assault victim/patient in the Emergency Department within one hour of notification.
  • Provides evaluation, evidence collection, and trauma-informed care to patients/victims based on guidelines.
  • Obtains lab values based on patient/victim information and age/situation.
  • Collaborates with law enforcement, advocacy groups, court/local Solicitor’s office, and community partners.
  • Documents injuries in forensic database and generates reports from the data.
  • Contributes to peer-review and quality measures; participates in reviews with Medical Directors.
  • Participates in state-wide meetings and trainings with FNEs and advocacy groups.
  • Shares on-call availability to provide 24/7/365 care.
  • Manages chain of custody and adheres to evidence protocols for kits and lab specimens.
  • Maintains equipment and fiscal responsibilities of the program resources.
  • Participates in providing testimony and coordinates with attorneys during judicial processes.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Qualifications /Training

  • Current SANE-A (Adult) and SANE-P (Pediatric) certification within 12 and 24 months of employment, respectively as well as maintenance of certification requirements
  • BLS
  • Driver’s License, access to reliable transportation/vehicle, ability to drive.
