Job summary

The Office of Chief Medical Examiner in New York City seeks a Forensic Mortuary Technician I to support the mortuary unit and assist with decedent handling, storage, and release. You will operate CMS, document incidents, and follow supervisor directions in day-to-day operations.

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma and one year of mortuary/autopsy experience. A NY driver’s license is preferred.

Qualifications

A four-year high school diploma or equivalent.
One year of full-time mortuary and/or autopsy experience.
Ability to operate mortuary-related equipment and documentation systems.

Responsibilities

Assist Mortuary Operations Supervisors in daily unit operations and follow directions.
Perform mortuary procedures and decedent handling (METT, check-in, storage, release, photos, fingerprinting).
Prepare incident reports, schedules, and statistics as needed.
Operate CMS and CMS Mobile App for death certificates, burial permits, intake, and release of remains.
Maintain mortuary areas: cleaning, stocking, and sanitizing daily.
Report complaints, accidents, and incidents to the proper personnel.
Perform City Morgue Technician duties as needed.
Weigh and move remains; assist with city burial operations as required.
Operate a vehicle to travel to death scenes for case recovery.
Attend meetings and perform other duties as assigned.
