Job summary

Rimkus, a leading engineering and forensic consulting firm, seeks a mechanical engineer with forensic expertise to perform failure analyses across products, equipment and systems. You will identify origins, root causes, and contribute to expert reports and testimony as needed.

The role requires a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, with Ph.D. or P.E. for forensic emphasis, and 2–10+ years of relevant experience. Strong communication, writing, and project management skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or higher.
• Ph.D. or forensic experience with P.E. required.
• 2–10+ years of experience including knowledge of products, machine design, HVAC, plumbing, fire suppression, and related mechanical systems.
• Project management and/or field investigation experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs failure analysis for forensic assignments within mechanical engineering.
• Investigates origin, failure mechanism and root cause of incidents.
• Inspects sites and equipment; performs data retrieval, 3D documentation, CAD sketches, and analyses.
• Reviews codes, standards, drawings and manuals to evaluate design and maintenance compliance.
• Conducts analyses including industrial safety, machinery design, and product liability.
• Provides support on fire and explosion investigations involving mechanical systems and equipment.
• Initiates, develops, and maintains client relationships.
