Job summary

CACI International Inc is seeking a Firearm/Toolmaker Examiner to support exploitation missions across CONUS and OCONUS via deployment. The role requires meticulous firearms and toolmark analysis, documentation, and collaboration with forensic staff to ensure accurate results.

Qualifications

• Four years of laboratory experience performing firearms and toolmark evidence comparison and analysis.
• Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field; extensive, closely related work experience may be used in lieu of a degree.
• Master’s degree in forensic or physical sciences, or a related field may substitute for one year of experience.
• Safe firearm handling to include firearm maintenance, gunsmithing, reloading, ballistic performance, bullet casting, shotgun patterning, and firearm manufacturing methods.

Responsibilities

• Examine evidence and forensic materials and render all items safe.
• Examine evidence items for signs indicating make, model, origin, manufacturer or maker, and serial numbers.
• Identify unique tool marks using magnification, etching, x-ray, and photography techniques.
• Photograph evidence items and key portions to support analysis and documentation.
• Utilize and submit to national databases.
• Perform forensic examination of tool marks on weapons and IED evidence.
• Produce detailed notes and reports.
• Perform technical and administrative reviews of other examiners' casework.
• Perform quality checks of instruments and reagents.
• Collaborate with forensic staff to ensure high quality results.
