MedTox Forensic Laboratory Team is seeking a Forensic Extractions Technologist Trainee. Utilize your science degree/background and receive on-the-job training working in a fast-paced environment performing pre-analytical extraction preparation of patient samples as part of routine confirmation testing of drugs of abuse. The extraction techniques include liquid-liquid, solid-phase, plate, and automated pipetting systems. This laboratory performs high-complexity testing such as workplace drug testing, federal drug testing, and medicated assisted drug treatment testing on urine, oral fluid, blood, and serum samples. Technologists play a vital role in medical laboratory science.

Pay Range

$21.00 - $23.00 per hour

Additional Details

Offers are based on skills, relevant experience, degrees/certifications, internal equity, and market data.

Work Schedule: Tuesday-Saturday, 3 pm - 11:30 pm, some overtime required

Shift: 2nd shift, with shift differential

Key Responsibilities
  • Receive and evaluate patient specimens for testing; prioritize work to maintain acceptable turnaround times.
  • Perform pipetting and extraction of samples using various techniques.
  • Assist with calibration and daily startup tasks.
  • Identify unacceptable specimens and handle appropriately.
  • Use quality control samples and maintain detailed records.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
  • Follow SOPs and supervisor instructions.
  • Understand chain of custody processes.
  • Deliver quality diagnostic and occupational testing efficiently.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and documentation.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory sciences or medical technology.
  • No prior experience required.
  • Ability to prioritize, manage time, and resolve problems.
  • Work effectively in a fast-paced environment with high accuracy.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
