Job description

The MCT Department is seeking a Technologist Trainee to work in our laboratory. The candidate will receive on-the-job training for the pre-analytical through post-analytical setup and testing of patient samples. This laboratory is responsible for screening blood, serum, urine, and meconium samples for drugs of abuse, as well as performing Therapeutic Drug Monitoring (TDM) and STAT testing for local clinics and hospitals. The MCT Laboratory uses immunoassay methodology (Beckman Coulter AU5800 Chemistry analyzers) to test samples, with some assays requiring chemical extraction prior to analysis.

Pay Range: $21.00 - $23.00 per hour

All job offers will be based on a candidate’s skills, prior relevant experience, applicable degrees/certifications, as well as internal equity and market data.

Work Schedule: Wednesday – Saturday, 9:00 pm – 7:30 am, with some overtime required

Shift: 3rd shift, which qualifies for a shift differential

Benefits: Employees scheduled to work 20 or more hours per week are eligible for comprehensive benefits including Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, STD/LTD, 401(k), Paid Time Off (PTO) or Flexible Time Off (FTO), Tuition Reimbursement, and Employee Stock Purchase Plan. Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  1. Receive specimens for testing; evaluate specimens and test orders; determine priority of work and batches to maintain acceptable turn-around time; recognize unacceptable and unusual specimens and handle appropriately.
  2. Adhere to SOPs while performing extractions and analysis on client samples, quality control samples, and proficiency samples.
  3. Prepare laboratory reagents and standard solutions according to SOP.
  4. Evaluate raw and final data for accuracy; recognize and correct errors and unusual results; interpret results to produce a final report; use GDP in all documentation.
  5. Maintain, calibrate, and clean instrumentation; perform scheduled/routine maintenance and critical function checks; recognize significant changes in instrument function; troubleshoot as needed.
  6. Follow quality control rules; monitor controls for error detection and take corrective action; maintain laboratory records, maintenance logs, quality control logs, reagent and standard logs, and worksheets.

Requirements:

  1. Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university in chemical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology.
  2. Previous experience is not required.
  3. Proven ability to prioritize tasks and manage time.
  4. Excellent research and problem resolution skills.
  5. Ability to perform work with high accuracy and attention to detail.
  6. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
