Job summary

The South Dakota Attorney General's Office, Division of Criminal Investigation, Forensic Laboratory in Pierre, SD is seeking a Forensic Scientist in the biology section for a full-time position.

You will evaluate evidence, prepare reports, and testify when required; maintain safety and participate in lab accreditation.

Qualifications include degrees in biology/forensic science, DNA coursework, and ability to obtain a SD driver's license; background checks required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in biology/biochemistry/forensic science.
  • Completed at least 9 credit hours of biology or chemistry coursework related to DNA analysis.
  • Additional coursework in statistics or population genetics.
  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid South Dakota driver's license.
  • Must pass a comprehensive background investigation.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and identify physical forensic evidence using established procedures.
  • Present findings as a technical report to court when required.
  • Follow lab procedures, regulations and safety protocols.
  • Undergo proficiency testing and related duties.
  • Stay current with DNA analysis advancements and training.
  • Share lab duties such as training, safety and accreditation.
