DrillTech, LLC in Colorado is seeking a Foreman Driller/Locator (CDL required) to lead a directional drilling crew. You will operate the drill, locate utilities, and supervise 3–5 workers to meet project schedules.

FOREMAN - DRILLER/LOCATOR
(CDL Required)

DrillTech, LLC is looking for a highly motivated individual to join our team as a Foreman Driller/Locator for a Directional Drill Crew. DrillTech is the premier utility construction services provider in the western region, providing directional drilling, plowing, trenching, spider plowing, hydro excavation, micro trenching, fast fusion, fiber optics, and general underground utility construction.

JOB PURPOSE

The Foreman Driller/Locator performs a lead person role in operations involving directional drill utility construction, including telecommunications infrastructure. This position combines hands-on directional drill operation and utility locating with crew leadership responsibilities. The Foreman Driller/Locator is responsible for managing approximately 3-5 employees, assigning job responsibilities, meeting with inspectors, laying out work, keeping the job on schedule, and communicating company goals and expectations, while directing, coaching, and training personnel assigned to the crew. This role also operates the directional drill and performs utility locates as needed to keep the crew productive, and provides regular updates to management via written daily reports, e‑mail, phone conversations, and meetings. Also performs additional duties as assigned.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operate the directional drill rig, including drill string assembly, steering, tracking, and drill fluid/mud mixing, to bore accurately along the planned path
  • Locate and mark underground utilities using electromagnetic locating equipment and other locating tools prior to and during drilling operations
  • Ensure optimal and efficient use of all available resources, to include crew, equipment, supplies, and materials
  • Manage, supervise, and produce quality work that meets or exceeds productivity goals
  • Ensure safe equipment operation, tools, and conditions on all sites
  • Work closely with project management to make necessary labor and resource adjustments
  • Provide fair and consistent coaching of operators and laborers, leading by example at all times
  • Use strong and effective communication skills at all levels
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships through constant communication
  • Plan and lay out work; ensure project-specific needs are acquired prior to work starting
  • Develop a thorough understanding of the project plans, specifications, and schedules as they relate to the project assigned; review with crews throughout the project to ensure proper execution
  • Examine/inspect field conditions and identify problems, inaccuracies, and cost‑saving measures that arise or that may be encountered, and report to the Superintendent so corrective actions can be taken as needed
  • Inspect work for compliance with the contract plans and specifications, identify deficiencies, and take corrective action as needed
  • Track and capture quantities completed on the project, review for accuracy, and report to management
  • Identify safety hazards and take necessary corrective action
  • Perform task planning to safely and efficiently carry out all aspects of the project assigned
  • Monitor quality of work and ensure correct construction procedures are followed and that work complies with the plans and specifications
  • Monitor and report productivity rates and ensure production meets the project schedule constraints
  • Manage crew to ensure productivity requirements are maintained or exceeded
  • Maintain a working knowledge of scheduling, material control, and unit man-hour performance
  • Maintain, calibrate, and care for drilling and locating equipment
  • Keep the work site neat and orderly
  • Perform other tasks assigned by the Manager or other Operations Management (other duties as assigned)
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum of three years foreman/supervisory experience working with a directional drill crew
  • Hands‑on experience operating a directional drill rig required
  • Experience locating underground utilities using electromagnetic locating equipment preferred
  • Must have a valid CDL driver's license and motor vehicle history record that meets company insurance requirements
  • Basic math skills
  • Basic computer skills, to maintain project logs and reports
  • ALL employees must pass a Level 4 background check
  • Must be able to pass a pre‑employment drug screening (will be subject to random drug screenings)
  • Must be able to work long hours
  • Ability to travel as required
  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions
EDUCATION

High School diploma or GED is preferred
