Job summary

The Legal Aid Society of Northeastern New York seeks a Foreclosure Prevention Attorney based in our Albany Office to assist homeowners facing foreclosure across sixteen upstate counties. LASNNY operates six regional offices and provides extensive benefits, health coverage, and a supportive work environment.

We require NYS bar admission or eligibility, a commitment to civil legal aid, and the ability to handle a high-volume caseload.

Qualifications

• Licensed to practice law in NYS or eligible for admission.
• Public interest law commitment and providing high-quality legal services.
• Effective communication and ability to work independently and efficiently.
• Sensitivity to needs of low- and moderate-income households in crisis.
• Strong computer and data entry skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide advice, brief service, negotiation, and full representation in foreclosure proceedings and related cases for homeowners at risk of foreclosure.
• Engage in non-litigation advocacy with mortgage servicers, tax districts, and local/state agencies.
• Assist homeowners in accessing available funds to prevent foreclosure; complete grant reporting.
• Conduct outreach to prospective clients; attend court, community meetings, and outreach events.
• Represent clients in multiple forums and areas of law; maintain case files and data in management systems.
