Rural King is seeking a Buyer in Mattoon, IL to own and drive the full spectrum of product assortment, planning, and vendor partnerships. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams and store operations to optimize assortment, pricing, and inventory, ensuring strong supplier relationships and value for customers.

The role emphasizes data-driven decision making, category leadership, and executing strategic plans to improve margins and in-store availability across Rural King’s markets.

Qualifications

• At least 3 years of multi-unit purchasing experience.
• Proficiency with Excel; ability to learn Oracle Systems.
• Excellent verbal and written interpersonal and communication skills.
• Strong understanding of retail business practices and negotiation.

Responsibilities

• Own and drive product assortment, financial planning, and vendor partnerships.
• Develop and manage vendor relationships and co-op programs.
• Negotiate pricing, terms, and opportunities with suppliers.
• Coordinate with Stores, DC, Logistics for product flow.
• Lead category planning and seasonal merchandising.
• Provide analytics and reports to support decisions.
• Mentor and develop team in line with Rural King’s Thrive leadership.
