Job summary

Element Materials Technology in Fort Wayne, Indiana seeks a Department Supervisor for its Food Testing Laboratory. You will guide staff, ensure timely, accurate data, and uphold safety standards in a busy microbiology and chemistry environment.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will supervise laboratory personnel, coordinate weekend/holiday coverage, manage inventory, and engage with internal and external stakeholders to meet client expectations and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related technical field with supervisory experience preferred
• Experience in food microbiology testing and QA in a commercial lab
• Familiarity with FDA BAM, USDA MLG, and AOAC methods recommended
• Working knowledge of laboratory quality and safety
• Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and communicate with stakeholders

Responsibilities

• Act as primary supervisor of laboratory technical staff
• Provide direct supervision and staffing coverage, including weekend/holiday rotations
• Ensure timely, accurate data generation and reporting to customers
• Maintain safety guidelines and laboratory hygiene standards
• Provide professional customer service to internal and external stakeholders
• Assist in hiring decisions, performance management, and timecard approvals
