Job summary

Element Materials Technology in Fort Wayne, Indiana is seeking a Microbiologist to support microbiological testing of food products, raw materials, and environmental samples in our Food Testing Laboratory.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or GED with interest in microbiology, the ability to work independently, and weekend availability. Prior lab experience and strong computer skills are preferred. ISO/IEC 17025:2005 familiarity is a plus.

Qualifications

• Working knowledge of laboratory safety.
• Ability to work independently.
• 0-2 years’ experience in a testing related field.
• Basic understanding of testing concepts.
• Possess strong computer skills.
• Must be able to work at least one weekend per month.

Responsibilities

• Provide essential microbiological and chemical laboratory services for food and beverage manufacturers, private sectors, commodity exporters, and others in the food industry in line with Element's standards.
• Perform tests as directed by internal standard operating procedures, published methods, and laboratory accreditations.
• Operate under the supervision of more senior microbiologists and/or department managers.
• Maintain accurate records of all performed procedures in assisting in implementation of ISO / IEC 17025:2005 in the laboratory.
• Complete logs and record test data.
• Manage the functionality and calibration of laboratory equipment.
• Prepare media and reagents and maintain culture stocks.
• Work with indicator organisms and pathogens daily.
• Clean glassware and dispose of samples.
• Adhere to, support and follow all Element safety guidelines.
