JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Food Services Aide

LOCATION/DEPT: Peoria Food Programs

REPORTS TO: Peoria Food Service & Warehouse Operations Manager works in coordination with the Lead Food Pantry Specialist.

PEOPLE MANAGER: No

FLSA CATEGORY: Non-Exempt, Full Time.

PAY GRADE: 201

PAY RATE: $15.75 - $18.53

JOB SUMMARY

Provides support to Food Services & Warehouse Personnel in coordinating the distribution of food pantry services to the community.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Coordinate daily assignments with the Lead Food Pantry Specialist to maintain efficient operations.
  • Operate and maintain the food pantry, provide crisis assistance with grocery & hygiene items to those in need, documenting as necessary.
  • Keep the front desk presentable with up-to-date flyers.
  • Complete and file intake paperwork and all necessary documents for clients, including data entry into the electronic system and SIMS database.
  • Receive and document gift in kind (GIK) donations delivered to the warehouse.
  • Assist with daily unloading, shelving, stocking, and storing of food donations and deliveries as needed for the food pantry.
  • Communicate with Lead Food Pantry Specialist on items/supplies needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness of work area, including keeping client files organized and updated.
  • Assist with day-to-day warehouse activities.
    • Provide organization and preparation for the community food pantry program.
    • Palletize and shrink wrap warehouse products as necessary.
    • Ensure the warehouse equipment such as Forklifts, Power Jacks, etc. are safely stored, prepared for work, and charged as necessary.
    • Participate in ensuring that warehouse materials are effectively received, tracked and easily accessible.
  • Provide overall support and coordination, as needed, across food service operations as needed. (i.e. - driving, dropping off food, serving, etc.)
  • Adhere to Health Department policies and procedures ensuring compliance.
  • Maintain ongoing compliance with the Food Handler Serv Safe Certification.
  • Complete CPR/ First Aid/ Blood Borne Pathogens Training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned as related to Peoria Food and warehouse programs.

  • Successfully satisfy the training requirements associated to the position and as required by The Salvation Army.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Education:

High School diploma, equivalent experience will be considered in lieu of.

Experience:

Must have the ability to work cooperatively with others as a team member performing duties and providing support to the community and clients through the Food Services Department. Must be able to maintain composure and positive attitude while serving guests in the fast-paced and high demand food pantry.

  • Ability to efficiently and effectively direct groups and volunteers successfully.
  • Team player, self-starter, and perform well with minimal supervision. Take instruction from others.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience or capacity to demonstrate positive interpersonal skills and work as a cooperative team member.

  • Ability to multi-task several projects concurrently.
  • Must have an interest and ability to work with people of diverse racial, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds in a sensitive and culturally appropriate manner.
  • Must be able to work days, and holidays, as necessary. Especially in emergent situations.
  • Proficiency in computer software applications, including demonstrated experience in using email, MS Office applications.
JOB LIMITATIONS
  • This individual will only commit resources of The Salvation Army that have been allocated or approved.
  • This individual will adhere to all policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position. The individual will keep the designated supervisor informed of all critical issues relating to their area of responsibility.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • This position will be required to do light to moderate physical work. Sometimes heavier.
  • To successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to use standard office equipment including a PC and potentially make public presentations/interactions.
  • The work environment for this position includes a warehouse environment with moderate noise level.
  • This individual must be able to travel to meet the needs of the position. A valid Driver's License and MVR is required.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
  • This position reports to the designated supervisor.
  • In context related to this position's duties, this individual will interact with a wide range of contacts both internal and external. In these contacts he/she will act as a representative of The Salvation Army and its mission.
PERFORMANCE MEASURES
  • This individual will be evaluated on how effectively the outcomes of this position are achieved. Timeliness and accuracy of accomplishing assigned goals will be reviewed. An evaluation of how effective service is provided. Performance will also be determined by outcome information provided during weekly staff meetings and monthly reports.
POSITION LIMITATIONS
  • This individual will adhere to all policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position.
