Food Service Cook / Cold Prep
Purpose: Prepares a full range of food and baked products for school lunches and snacks. Assists in maintaining food safety and cleanliness of all food service areas.
Reports To: Food Service Manager
FLSA Status: Non‑Exempt
Salary: $14.25 to $18.75 per hour
Qualifications
- High school diploma, GED, or vocational school equivalent.
- Basic math skills and ability to apply weights, measures, and amounts in recipes.
- Proficient knowledge of commercial food preparation, equipment, and food safety.
- Proficient customer service skills.
- Health and inoculation certification on file in the District Office (after employment offer).
Responsibilities
- Assist in food preparation for lunches and snacks.
- Ensure all activities conform to district, community, and KSDE guidelines.
- Communicate and work cooperatively with district and community members.
- React to change and interruptions productively, meeting deadlines.
- Demonstrate knowledge of appropriate operation of all kitchen equipment.
- Implement district vision and mission.
- Observe and follow all district policies at all times.
- Follow all district health and safety policies.
- Maintain regular attendance; excessive absences or tardiness may result in disciplinary action.
- Assist the food service site manager in operations.
- Prepare food items to be served in planned quantities at designated times.
- Follow written and verbal instructions.
- Apply basic principles of quantity food cookery.
- Operate equipment safely, preventing damage.
- Clean and sanitize equipment properly.
- Follow standardized recipes; weigh and measure ingredients accurately.
- Maintain a clean work area.
- Assist with service as needed, applying portion control standards.
- Practice good personal hygiene and food safety.
- Prepare accurate timesheets for each pay period.
- Perform additional tasks as directed by the food service site manager.
Physical Demands
- Requires standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or bending for extended periods; ability to reach overhead.
- Ability to work in extreme temperatures.
- Exposure to odors, chemicals, and a noisy environment.
- Use hands and fingers repetitively.
- Work in an environment with frequent interruptions.
- Vision requirements: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Can lift, pull, or push up to 50 pounds.
