Job summary

McPherson USD 418 Food Service - McPherson, Kansas is seeking a FT Food Service Assistant to support daily meal operations under the Food Service Manager. The role starts immediately, with non-exempt status and benefits per the classified agreement.

Responsibilities include portioning, food prep assistance, serving, line maintenance, and basic inventory tasks while ensuring HACCP guidelines are followed and safety standards are met.

Qualifications

• Must be able to read and communicate in English.
• Accurately count, weigh, and measure ingredients and portions.
• Ability to follow instructions and take initiative in tasks.
• Must have physical endurance for standing, walking, bending, twisting, and squatting.
• Lift a minimum of 51 pounds to 33 inches occasionally.

Responsibilities

• Interact with staff, students, faculty, visitors, and coworkers in a pleasant and professional manner.
• Portion foods into appropriate quantities per recipe or as instructed.
• Use recipe techniques (chopping, dicing, mixing, slicing) to assist with food preparation.
• Wash pots, pans, and other items using a dish machine or three-compartment sink.
• Place menu items on serving line and arrange serving utensils.
• Monitor food temperatures and report unsafe temperatures to the manager.
• Serve food according to recipe portions or as instructed.
• Disassemble serving line and clean serving area.
• Discard or store leftovers properly.
• Follow HACCP guidelines during tasks.
• Remove garbage and insert new bags.

• Food Handlers Certification.

• Follow instructionsand take initiative in performance of assigned tasks.
• Physical ability to walk, stoop, stand, twist,and squat on a constant basis.
• Lift a minimum of 51 pounds to 33 inches occasionally.

ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

• Must work in a hot, humid environment.
• Must work in a cold, or below zero environment for short period.

REPORTS TO: Food Service Manager

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Benefits and work calendar as provided by the Classified Agreement.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Interact with staff, students, faculty, visitors, and co-workers in a pleasant and professional manner.
• Portion foods into appropriate quantities per recipe or as instructed.
• Use techniques outlined in recipe or as instructed (chopping, dicing, mixing, slicing, etc.) to assist with food preparation.
• Wash pots, pans, and other items using dish machine or three (3) compartment sink.
• Place menu and a la carte foods on serving line and assemble the appropriate serving utensils.
• Monitor temperature of food and beverage prior to service and report unsafe temperatures to manager and take appropriate corrective actions.
• Serve food according to recipe portion or as instructed.
• Disassemble serving line and clean serving area.
• Discard or properly store left-over foods.
• Perform all tasks in accordance with HACCP guidelines.
• Remove garbage from trash receptacles and insert new bags.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

• Report to work at scheduled time with proper uniformand appropriately groomed.
• Assist in unpacking boxes, stocking storeroom or coolers, pulling food items from storeroom and other inventory management duties as assigned.
• Perform cleaning tasks as assigned.
• Adhere to all school district and building rulesand regulations.
• Utilize proper hand washing techniques.
• Participate in meetings, training sessions, andseminars as scheduled.
• Complete other tasks as assigned.
