Job Description: Food Service Worker

Performs manual and routine duties in food service and/or kitchen areas. Responsible for the preparation and replenishment of food, and custodial duties of the dining and kitchen areas. Duties are performed under close supervision and are reviewed during and after completion. Must be able to perform physically demanding activities including lifting, walking, and stooping.

1. Consistently performs routine tasks.
2. Knows and applies food safety policies and procedures for the department.
3. Prepares a variety of foods such as meats, vegetables, and desserts according to customer orders or supervisor instructions, following approved procedures.
4. Performs cashier duties if assigned.
5. Operates and cleans food service equipment independently.
6. If supervising, the extent of supervision is determined by the supervising manager.
7. Number of employees supervised varies by location.
8. Takes and records temperatures of food and storage areas such as refrigerators and freezers.
9. If driving is required, follows policies and procedures for operating Texas Tech vehicles.
10. Demonstrates thorough knowledge in food preparation, equipment use, customer service, sanitation, and safety procedures.
11. Supervises and participates in kitchen and dining activities if assigned.
12. Trains workers in food preparation, service, sanitation, and safety procedures.
13. Controls inventories of food, equipment, and small wares, and reports shortages.

Minimum qualifications include completion of eighth grade and one year of experience. Ability to understand and carry out oral instructions.
