Job summary

Southern Illinois Healthcare is hiring for multiple kitchen shift roles to prepare meals for patients, visitors and staff. The available schedules include Day, Evening, Overnight and Weekend shifts, with flexible options based on department needs.

You will ensure safe, sanitary meal preparation, handle patient trays, and maintain stocked work areas in compliance with IDPH guidelines. A high school diploma is preferred; certifications may be required within 30 days.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Food Service Managers Certification required within 30 days of hire (SJMH only).
• Food Service Handlers Certification required within 30 days of hire (MHC, HH, HMC, Cancer Institute).
• Food Allergens Certification required within 30 days of hire.
• Technical Experience: 6 months, preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintains clean work area following all safety and sanitation guidelines.
• Enters and reports cash transactions.
• Adjusts meals to meet the needs of the patient while following doctor’s orders.
• Keeps all work areas adequately stocked with food, condiments, beverages and service ware.
• Washes dishes and utensils following Illinois Department of Public Health guidelines in all actions.
• Delivers and retrieves trays using required patient identifiers in all interactions.
• Attractively and accurately assembles patient trays.
• Follows established portion control guidelines when serving food and beverages.
• Responsible for service to retail operations.
• Prepares meals using approved food sanitation practices.
• Sweeps and mops floors using approved methods.

• Technical Experience: 6 months, preferred

Physical Activities

• Intermittent hand manipulation required
