Job Summary

The Food Service Worker II will include the duties of FSW I with the additional responsibility of tasks related to the Diet Office and Call Center. The FSW II will assist with orders for patients, maintain office supplies, and run reports. This position will comply with all cafeteria, food, and beverage regulation guidelines outlined in the facility Food Service manual. Duties include utility, food preparation, assembly tasks, and cafeteria responsibilities. The patients’ demographics range from newborns through children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. There is minimal access to patient health information.

Job Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED preferred
  • Previous experience in food service desired
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time
  • Follow compliance and standards required by food/beverage regulations outlined in the facility manual
  • Ensure compliance with all sanitation and safety requirements
  • Effectively communicate with all staff

Shift: 8 hrs. per week

Essential Physical Requirements

  • Must possess full range of body motion to pass basic FIT test for position, including standing, bending, stooping, and sitting for extended periods.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Stand and walk for most of the day.
  • Must be able to withstand heat and temperature changes while going in and out of refrigerated or freezer areas.

Job-Specific Standards

  • Follow “Meal Delivery” guidelines outlined in facility manual
  • Follow “Utility” guidelines outlined in facility manual
  • Accurately take patient menu orders via telephone, assisting patients with appropriate choices per diet restriction and following scripting guidelines.
  • Accurately run diet reports.
  • Maintain supplies and files in the diet office.
  • Accurately take orders/messages from nursing units.
  • Clean work area and stations, vacuum, and take out trash.
  • Enter information into the patient card file.
  • Understand the computer ordering system in a quick and efficient manner.
  • Tactfully guide patients to proper menu selection and offer suggestions.
  • Handle patient complaints in a satisfactory manner and help patients make decisions.
  • Run the missed meal report and complete callbacks.
  • Print the non-room service tickets.
  • Assist with restocking when needed.
  • Promptly report hazards and unclean areas.
  • Assist with receipt reconciliation, cash drawer count, and correct handling of sales when assigned.
  • Assist with FSW I tasks as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
