Job summary

Legacy Traditional Schools is seeking a cafeteria teammate to perform routine food preparation, set up serving lines, and assist with daily cleaning duties. This on-site role supports students and staff, ensuring meals meet guidelines and safety standards.

The position emphasizes teamwork, reliable attendance, and positive interaction with students, families and campus staff in a fast-paced school cafeteria environment.

Qualifications

• Education, Licensure, or Certification: Food Handlers Card.
• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• Experience in food preparation and handling preferred.
• Ability to operate institutional equipment.
• Effective communication with staff, co-workers and students.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine food preparation tasks, such as cutting up fruits and vegetables, making and wrapping sandwiches and salads.
• Set up and stock work areas with all necessary ingredients and equipment.
• Assist with daily cleaning duties in the cafeteria including cleaning equipment and work areas, mopping, operating dishwasher and/or scrubbing pots and pans.
• Organize food service and dining areas.
• Serve students and staff in a cheerful and helpful manner.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Perform routine food preparation tasks, clean up, set up and other duties as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Perform routine food preparation tasks, such as cutting up fruits and vegetables, making and wrapping sandwiches and salads.
• Set up and stock work areas with all necessary ingredients and equipment.
• Assist with daily cleaning duties in the cafeteria including cleaning equipment and work areas, mopping, operating dishwasher and/or scrubbing pots and pans.
• Cleaning up lines at the end of the meal shift, and putting away/disposing of leftovers.
• Organize food service and dining areas.
• Serve students and staff in a cheerful and helpful manner.
• Accurately identify a reimbursable meal on the serving line; provide monitoring and guidance to customers to be sure selections meet federal guidelines.
• Safely operate standard and specialized kitchen equipment, including convection/combi ovens, microwave ovens, dishwashers, food warmers, coolers and freezers.
• Set up a serving line with appropriate serving equipment according to Maricopa County Health Department guidelines.
• Clean work areas and dispose of garbage daily.
• Assist manager in verifying and monitoring HACCP procedures including temperature, sanitizer and storage logs.
• Respond to all internal and external customers, as it relates to the position, in a prompt, efficient, friendly and patient manner.
• Maintain courteous relationships with students, staff, parents, and community, treating all with respect.
• Perform all related duties as required.
• Perform all duties in a safe and prudent manner as directed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

Education, Licensure, or Certification Food Handlers Card High School Diploma or Equivalent Work Experience or Related Experience Previous experience in food preparation and handling preferred Ability to operate institutional equipment preferred Must display ability to communicate effectively with staff, co-workers and students Specialized Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Function effectively as a team member Be flexible and adaptable to change Positively accept direction

BACKGROUND CHECKS

The incumbent in this position will be required to pass a criminal history background check as required by the state specific charter school mandates.

PHYSICAL AND TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT

Travel between campuses is required from time to time, if needed. This position requires the need to lift objects up to 25 pounds. Team lifting and use of PPE is required for any objects over 25 pounds. May be required to team lift up to 50 pounds. This position may require sitting for long periods at times, talking on the phone, standing, kneeling, stooping and long periods of concentration.
