Summary

Performs a variety of food service tasks in the areas of meal assembly, meal delivery, dishwashing, and metal ware.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Set-up and clean-up of tray line assembly areas, including hot and cold food items, silverware, dishes, napkins, salads, desserts, breads, and beverages.
• Prepare work stations by stocking food and non-food items and equipment as necessary.
• Work on assembly tray line stations and read tray tickets to provide correct food items.
• Load trays on delivery carts.
• Operate elevator to deliver and pick-up carts to patient care units and outpatient clinics.
• Transport food service supplies to patient rooms and outpatient clinics as needed.
• Remove trays from patient rooms and send soiled trays.
• Buses all patient and customer serving trays.
• Operate mechanical dishwasher, clean equipment, kitchen areas, and unload food from delivery carts.
• Clean and sanitize all metal ware, cooking pots, pans, and utensils.
• Maintain food service elevator, work areas, and equipment as scheduled.
• May be asked to prepare simple foods like sandwiches and salads.
• Maintain various records such as tray delivery and pick-up schedules.
• Assemble department trash for transport and transport to specific areas as needed.
• Maintain good rapport and cooperative relationships, approach conflicts constructively, and help identify and resolve problems.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient, physician, employee, and visitor information, discussing only with appropriate personnel in private.
• Perform duties safely, report hazards and unsafe practices immediately.
• Behave in accordance with the Mission, Vision, and Values of Saint Joseph Mercy Health System.

Education and Experience

Some foodservice experience preferred.

Skills and Abilities

• Ability to read, write, and perform math calculations.
• Ability to walk and stand for long periods, up to 100% of the workday.
• Ability to lift and push up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail for up to 50% of the work time.
• Effective interpersonal communication skills with staff, patients, and department personnel.
