Summary

This position is located in the Nutrition and Food Services within the VA Palo Alto Health Care System. The incumbent will serve as a Food Service Worker performing food preparation, serving, and cleaning work.

Duties

This position independently performs duties requiring proficiency in special procedures and broad knowledge of service operations, including food and beverage preparation, modified diets, computer proficiency, dishwashing, storage, safety, and sanitation.

Major duties include (but are not limited to):

• Setting up and breaking down stations with supplies and food items.
• Portioning food into standard sizes.
• Selecting appropriate food items for common diets based on diet cards or tray tickets.
• Providing patients with information about modified diets and nutrition services.
• Identifying discrepancies between prescribed diets and menu items.
• Following recipes and sanitary techniques for food assembly and preparation.
• Delivering meal trays and reporting patient feedback.
• Assisting cooks with food prep and labeling.
• Preparing cold salads, dressings, sandwiches, desserts, and nourishments.
• Checking diet trays for accuracy and temperature.
• Working in various kitchen areas and performing heavy-duty cleaning tasks.
• Performing other duties as assigned.
