The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a Food Service Worker for the Nutrition & Food Service at the VA Medical Center in Menlo Park, CA. This Food Service Worker position is located within the Nutrition & Food Service at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, VA Integrated Service Network (VISN), Department of Veterans Affairs, in Menlo Park, CA.
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: The Wage Grade 3 Food Service Workers perform work requiring light to moderate physical effort. They may be required to perform heavy work, such as scouring and scrubbing large cooking utensils and pushing heavy carts and trucks for unloading, storing, and delivering supplies. The work involves continuous standing and walking, with frequent stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and bending. Workers may need to work on ladders and operate powered cleaning equipment. They often lift or move objects up to 20 pounds unassisted and occasionally handle objects over 40 pounds with assistance. The environment includes kitchen areas with high temperatures and humidity due to steam and heat from cooking and dishwashing. The work area is well-lit but usually noisy, with risks of slipping on floors with spilled food or beverages. Workers are exposed to hot liquids, sharp blades, hot surfaces, and temperature changes when entering refrigeration or freezing units.
Applicants will be evaluated based on the OPM Federal Wage System Qualifications. The position uses the job element method to assess your skills against the work requirements. Note: A full year of work is considered 35-40 hours per week. All experience must include start and end dates. Part-time experience will be credited proportionally. Volunteer work is valued and counts toward qualifying experience.
