Job summary

The Louisiana Veterans Homes are seeking a dedicated Food Service Specialist 5 to supervise daily operations in a fast-paced food service environment. You will ensure duty stations are staffed, check menus, and coordinate supplies to meet quality standards.

As a probationary appointment, you will participate in interview panels, monitor sanitation, and evaluate staff performance while upholding state policies. The role offers competitive pay and benefits within Louisiana's public service system.

Qualifications

  • Three years of food service experience or training in related fields.
  • Three years of training in food technology, food service management, or related curriculum.
  • 36 semester hours in food and nutrition, dietetics, or hotel/food service management.

  • Serves as shift supervisor of a food service operation and ensures that all duty stations are manned on an assigned shift.
  • Checks menus for assigned meals and ensures all items needed are in stock.
  • Obtains supplies from storage rooms; ensures that items are prepared, cooked, and served in accordance with standards of quality and quantity.
  • Serves on interview panels when applicants apply for lower-level Food Service Specialist jobs.
  • Monitors the cleanliness of the food service operation and ensures that it meets all sanitary codes.
  • Evaluates the performance of lower-level Food Service Specialists and approves their leave.

About This Job

The mission of the Louisiana Veterans Homes is to primarily serve the veteran population of Louisiana by providing medical, restorative, and rehabilitative services in an atmosphere of respect and compassion. The primary objective of the home is to provide quality nursing care to eligible veterans, with the ultimate goal of returning them to the highest possible levels of physical and mental capacity.

Minimum Qualifications

Three years of food service experience in a food service operation; OR

Three years of training in food technology, food service management, or in a food service-related curriculum in a trade school or technical institute; OR

Thirty-six semester hours in food and nutrition, dietetics, food service preparation, home economics, or hotel, food service, restaurant, or institutional management.

Position-Specific Details

Appointment Type: Probational

Compensation: The minimum hire rate for the Food Service Specialist 5 is $14.03/ hourly. There is also a $2/hour premium pay.
