Job summary

Louisiana Department of Education – Office of Nutrition Support is seeking an Education Consultant 2 to ensure compliance and support for NSLP, SBP, and Seamless Summer Programs. The role focuses on program integrity, policy development, and technical assistance for school food authorities.

Responsibilities include monitoring operations, conducting on-site visits, and delivering training to diverse stakeholders while collaborating with internal and external partners to advance child nutrition

Qualifications

  • Experience in policy development, compliance monitoring, or auditing of government programs.
  • Ability to conduct nutrient analyses per 7 CFR 210.10 and 7 CFR 220.8 and assess calories, fat, sodium against age/grade standards.
  • Ability to deliver training and provide technical assistance to diverse stakeholders.

Applicants With The Following Experience Are Encouraged To Apply
  • Experience with USDA Child Nutrition Programs such as the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) or School Breakfast Program (SBP).
  • Experience in policy development, compliance monitoring, or auditing of government programs.
  • Experience conducting nutrient analyses in accordance with 7 CFR 210.10 and 7 CFR 220.8, including assessing calorie, saturated fat, and sodium content against established age/grade group standards, utilizing the USDA Child Nutrition Database, and performing weighted average analysis.
  • Ability to deliver training and provide technical assistance to diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong skills in data analysis, reporting, and financial tracking.
  • Experience working with school food authorities or educational institutions.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Six years of experience in education, teaching, or administrative services; OR
  • Six years of full-time work experience plus three years of experience in education, teaching, or administrative services; OR
  • A bachelor's degree plus three years of experience in education, teaching, or administrative services; OR
  • An advanced degree plus two years of experience in education, teaching, or administrative services.

Job Duties
  • Serve as a program resource and subject matter expert for the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs.
  • Provide technical assistance and training to school food authorities regarding program requirements and operational best practices.
  • Monitor program operations to ensure full compliance with federal and state mandates.
  • Review program applications and documentation, providing recommendations for approval or denial.
  • Conduct on-site visits or audits to provide quality assurance, training, and guidance.
  • Plans, conducts, and evaluates in-service training (including state, and regional workshops, hearings, conferences) for personnel in the Department of Education, School Food authorities, local education agencies, colleges and universities, technical colleges, correctional schools and institutions, as well as churches, civil associations, special committees and task forces, professional associations and organizations, special interest groups.
  • Prepare detailed reports and analyze data related to program performance and funding utilization.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to support child nutrition initiatives and resolve operational issues.
Position-Specific Details

Appointment Type: Probational, Promotional, or Job Appointment. The person hired for this position is expected to regularly report to the Baton Rouge office. Current permanent classified state employees may be required to accept a probationary appointment, if selected.

Career Progression: This position does not participate in a Career Progression Group.

Work Schedule: Work hours are Monday - Friday. Work hours will be determined.

Compensation: The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.

  • Note regarding the advertised pay range: The Education Consultant series has a special entrance rate (SER) of $27.07 hourly, $2,165.60 biweekly that is above the minimum hire rate for these positions. The maximum amounts listed are the maximum salary amounts a person can make over their career and not the maximum amount we are allowed to pay a new hire.
