Job summary

• Maintain equipment in accordance with manufacturer specifications and district standards.
• Respond to equipment breakdowns and service requests in a timely manner.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Technical, vocational, or trade-school training in electrical, mechanical, HVAC/R, plumbing, commercial equipment repair, or a related field preferred.
• Two years of experience in equipment maintenance, commercial kitchen equipment repair, electrical/mechanical maintenance, HVAC/R, plumbing, or a closely related field preferred.
• Experience working with commercial food service equipment is highly desirable.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Appropriate technical licenses or certifications, such as HVAC/R, electrical, plumbing, or commercial food equipment certifications, preferred or required as determined by the district.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Equipment Maintenance and Repair

• Inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, adjust, and repair food service equipment throughout the school district.
• Perform routine preventive maintenance on food preparation, cooking, refrigeration, dishwashing, serving, and sanitation equipment.
• Diagnose equipment problems and determine appropriate corrective action.
• Repair or replace worn, damaged, or defective components when appropriate.
• Maintain equipment in accordance with manufacturer specifications and district standards.
• Respond to equipment breakdowns and service requests in a timely manner, prioritizing emergencies and equipment essential to meal preparation and food safety.
• Perform routine maintenance and repairs on equipment such as commercial ovens and convection ovens; combi ovens and steamers; griddles, ranges, fryers, and hot food equipment; walk‑in and reach‑in refrigerators and freezers; ice machines; commercial dishwashers; food processors, mixers, slicers, and other food preparation equipment; serving lines and food holding equipment; heated and refrigerated serving equipment; garbage disposals and waste equipment; exhaust hoods and related kitchen equipment; hot water systems associated with food service operations; kitchen plumbing fixtures and related components; and other food service equipment as assigned.

Performance Expectations:

• Respond promptly to maintenance and repair requests.
• Maintain food service equipment in safe and reliable operating condition.
• Minimize disruption to school meal service.
• Complete preventive maintenance according to established schedules.
• Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records.
• Demonstrate sound judgment regarding equipment safety and food safety.
• Communicate effectively with the Director and food service personnel.
• Maintain professional relationships with school and district employees.
• Demonstrate reliability, initiative, and accountability.
• Protect district property and resources.
• Follow all district policies, procedures, and applicable laws and regulations.

Contract Length: 260 days

Salary: Spartanburg School District Six Salary Schedule
