FOOD SERVICE HELPER 5 HOURS - CLOUGH EARLY ELEMENTARY

The Rome City School District is accepting applications for a Food Service Helper. This is a 10-month position, 5 hours per day from 7:30am — 12:30 pm. This is a labor position through civil service. Food service and customer service experience are preferred but not necessary.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

Assists in the preparation and service of food and in cleaning of kitchen equipment: does related work as required.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

This routine manual work is performed under immediate supervision in connection with the preparation and service of food. On occasion, Food Service Helpers may perform cooking duties involving lesser degrees of skill than regularly required of employees in the classification of Cook. In some employing agencies, employees may be selected for temporary assignments to train for anticipated vacancies in cooking positions. These assignments are within the scope of this position and do not constitute a promotion, although a specified extra salary may be paid to incumbents while undergoing cook training. These temporary assignments are within the administrative prerogative of the employing agency.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

• Working knowledge of the proper methods of serving food and of the care of tableware, glassware, silver and kitchen appliances;
• Ability to follow oral and written directions;
• Good physical condition.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

None is required, but some experience as a helper in a restaurant or hotel dining room or in general domestic work is desirable.
