Job summary

Capital Region BOCES is seeking a Food Service Helper in the Management Services – Troy City School District (HS) area. The role supports in the preparation and service of food and performs routine kitchen cleaning under supervision.

Duties include assisting cooks, serving meals, and maintaining dining areas. The position requires physical stamina and the ability to follow oral and written directions; fingerprint background checks are required under SAVE legislation.

Responsibilities

• Sets tables and cleans them after meals.
• Fills sugar bowls and salt and pepper shakers.
• Works on the tray lines serving designated portions per menus.
• Fills food carts and delivers foods to designated areas.
• Polishes silverware, tables and chairs.
• Cleans dining rooms and dish and linen closets.
• Cleans, washes and otherwise prepares vegetables and fruit for cooking.
• Assists in the preparation of salads and desserts.
• Helps cooks in any phases of their duties.
• Washes dishes, pots and pans by hand or machine.
• Sweeps, mops and cleans kitchen.
• May act as cashier.
• Working knowledge of the proper methods of serving food and of the care of tableware, glassware, silver, and kitchen appliances.
• Ability to follow oral and written directions.
• Good physical condition.

LOCATION:

Management Services – Troy City School District (HS)

SCHEDULE:

Monday-Friday (FT hours will vary)

BASIC FUNCTION:

Assists in the preparation and service of food and in the cleaning of kitchen equipment. This is routine manual work performed under immediate supervision in connection with the preparation and service of food. On occasion, Food Service Helpers may perform cooking duties involving lesser degrees of skill than regularly required of employees in the classification of Cook. Does related work as required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

BOCES employee salary commensurate with experience and in accordance with contract language.
