Job description

Purpose

The Food Service Cook is responsible for preparing nutritious, high-quality meals that meet the dietary needs of patients in accordance with healthcare regulations and facility guidelines.

Responsibilities
  1. Prepares and cooks meals.
  2. Ensures food is cooked and served at safe temperatures according to food safety standards.
  3. Sets up and maintains workstations in a clean, organized, and sanitary manner.
  4. Monitors and records food storage, refrigeration, and labeling to meet health code standards.
  5. Reports any signs of illness to Food Service Manager.
  6. Collaborates with staff to ensure timely meal service.
  7. Cleans kitchen equipment, utensils, and work areas after use.
  8. Receives and stores food deliveries, rotating stock and checking expiration dates.
  9. Complies with facility protocols regarding infection control and sanitation.
  10. Reports any equipment issues or food shortages to the Food Service Manager.
Qualifications
  1. Must be at least 18 years of age.
  2. High school diploma or GED.
  3. Holds current food handler's certification or must complete within 6 months of hire (ServSafe or other accredited program).
  4. Previous experience in food service or healthcare dietary setting preferred.
  5. Knowledge of special diets and modified food textures.
  6. Strong time management and teamwork skills.
  7. Compassionate and respectful attitude towards employees, patients, and families.
  8. Basic written and verbal communication skills.
  9. Basic keyboarding and computer skills with ability to learn work-related software.
  10. Valid driver's license, auto liability insurance, and reliable transportation if driving is required.
  11. Successful completion of pre-employment physical, drug screen, TB test, and background check.
Working Conditions
  1. Physical requirements: medium exertion, up to 50 pounds occasionally, 20 pounds frequently, 10 pounds constantly.
  2. Environment: potential hazards (chemicals, infectious diseases), atmospheric conditions (fumes, odors, dust, gases).
  3. Work hours based on patient census, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
