Job Summary/Overall Objectives

Performs a variety of duties in operational support of the Food and Nutrition Department which includes cleaning, ware washing, serving, food preparation, food transport, and stocking of supplies.

Essential Job Functions

1. Patient and Retail Services
2. Works various stations in patient meal service area.
3. Delivers carts, meals and supplies to patient units.
4. Performs dishwashing and pot washing.
5. Serves food in the retail areas.
6. Stocks supplies throughout the department.
7. Fills in for cross-trained roles in the department.

1. Regulatory/Sanitation
2. Maintains work area in a sanitary manner; completes cleaning duties.
3. Prepares, serves, and stores foods according to HACCP guidelines.
4. Practices good hygiene including hand washing, wearing hair restraints, and glove usage.
5. Utilizes FIFO when obtaining foods from storage areas.
6. Takes and records temperatures of food during meal periods.
7. Checks sanitizer in pots area with test strips and records at each fill.
8. Records dish machine temperatures each meal period.
9. Uses two patient identifiers when delivering trays to patients.

2. Uses equipment in a safe manner; reports any issues immediately.
3. Cleans equipment according to established guidelines.
4. Refers to and follows MSDS guidelines for chemical usage and storage.
5. Uses proper body techniques in lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling.

2. Performs excellent customer service skills with all customers and coworkers.
3. Answers questions about prepared café food items.
4. Handles service recovery immediately or involves supervisor as needed.
5. Receives and distributes all messages in a timely manner.

Competency and Experience [Knowledge, Skills and Abilities]

Required Qualifications/Experience

1. High School Diploma, GED or higher level of education.
2. Zero (0) to One (1) year of experience in food service, sanitation, or service industry.
3. Strong leadership ability, good organizational skills, independent and critical thinking skills, sound judgment, and knowledge of legal aspects and liability of nursing practice.
4. Strong ability to communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience.

Preferred Qualifications/Experience

1. One (1) to Three (3) years’ experience in Food Service.
2. Experience in Healthcare setting.

License, Certification & Clearances

1. ServSafe Food Safety Certification preferred.
2. Act 34-PA Criminal Record Check from the PA State Police system.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

1. Incumbent will be scheduled based on operational need (rotate shifts, standby, on-call, etc.).
2. Travel may be expected locally between System locations.
