Position Summary:

The Food Service Assistant (FSA) assists the Food & Nutrition Services Supervisor (FNSS) to ensure that breakfast, lunch, and snack services at St. Joseph Academy (SJA) meet national food handling standards, align with SJA's mission and values, and comply with policies, procedures, and licensing agencies. The FSA performs food preparation, sanitation, equipment operation, facility cleaning, troubleshooting, and fills in for staff absences.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED preferred
• Experience in food service or kitchen preferred
• Safe Serve Certification required within 6 months
• Bilingual in Spanish is a plus
• Ability to analyze issues, identify options, and implement solutions
• Interest in working with children
• Ability to work cooperatively with staff and outside departments
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Good hand-eye coordination
• Ability to read, write, and follow directions
• Detail-oriented with ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work under pressure

• Provide excellent service to children

• Use communication methods to address issues and conflicts proactively
• Maintain safety and sanitation standards, cleaning and sanitizing work areas after each use
• Operate and secure equipment and supplies safely to protect health and safety
• Set up cafeteria for lunch services as needed
• Manage kitchen stock, including dating, rotating, organizing, and cleaning
• Label, date, and restock food items and supplies accurately
• Deep clean kitchen and related areas as needed
• Cross-train to prepare food, assemble portions, handle food at proper temperatures, replenish service line, and manage allergy substitutions
• Follow national food service standards and department policies
• Contribute to department productivity and cost-efficiency
• Adhere to policies, procedures, and regulatory standards
• Perform additional duties as assigned
