POSITION: Head Start Food Service Assistant

LOCATION: Huntington

HOURS: School year position available (35 hours/week)

STARTING SALARY RANGE: $17.30 per hour

Job Duties

The Food Service Assistant is responsible for the day-to-day food service operations for the assigned center. Responsibilities include:

• Complying with all requirements of the Indiana State Board of Health Food Service Sanitation Requirements (410 IAC 7-15.11) and maintaining a copy of the booklet on file in the kitchen.
• Following Child Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) processes and procedures at all times.
• Preparing and distributing food for breakfast, lunch, and snacks in an appropriate and timely manner, including:
• Portioning food according to posted menus.
• Distributing supplies, food, and non-food items.
• Maintaining proper storage of food and non-food supplies, keeping a running inventory.
• Maintaining a neat, clean, and orderly kitchen area by following the cleaning schedule.
• Keeping all necessary kitchen records.
• Complying with the Head Start Act, all Head Start regulations, and all federal, state, and local regulations, contractual agreements, and funding guidelines.

Skills and Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED preferred at hire; GED must be obtained within two years to maintain employment.
• Ability to operate basic kitchen equipment.
• Ability to read and understand menus and food service tracking tools.
• Basic math skills.
• Ability to relate and interact effectively with individuals from various socio-economic backgrounds, particularly low-income.
• Become certified in CPR and First Aid within twelve months of hire.
• When driving for Brightpoint, must have a valid Indiana driver's license and maintain minimum liability limits of $100,000/$300,000 on auto insurance.
