Job summary

Certified Group is seeking a laboratory analyst to perform analytical and microbiological testing of food products, ingredients, and environmentals. You will apply approved microbiological techniques and evaluate results to support quality and safety.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in biology/chemistry and at least 2 years in a food-testing lab, with willingness to travel as needed. On-site work in Michigan is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in biology/chemistry or related science field required.
• At least 2 years in a commercial food-testing or analytical lab.
• Experience with aseptic sampling and automated lab equipment.
• Familiarity with GLP, OSHA, FDA, BAM, APHA, ISO and USP methods.
• Must be willing to travel as needed.

Responsibilities

• Accurately perform and read test results and notify Laboratory Management of deviations.
• Prepare and analyze samples for indicator organisms, pathogens, and chemistries.
• Apply aseptic/microbiological techniques in daily workload.
• Report inventory and expendable supplies/materials needed for testing requirements.
• Provide routine preventive maintenance by daily cleaning, sanitizing, trash disposal, and equipment quality control.
• Assist in quality duties by taking incubator temperatures and running controls.
• Uphold FSNS policies and procedures and customer requirements.
• Maintain technical competence by reading journals and attending workshops.
• Perform activities in a neat, safe, hygienic, and efficient manner.
• Share information openly and timely with team.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry or related science field

2+ years in a commercial food-testing or analytical lab

Equivalent combination of education and experience

Working knowledge of aseptic sampling technique, automated lab equipment, and approved methods

Familiarity with GLP, OSHA, FDA, BAM, APHA, ISO and USP methods

Broad knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures in a food testing lab

Ability to travel when necessary
