Job summary

Greater Chicago Food Depository is seeking a Food Production Assistant to support the production, packaging, and distribution of prepared meals for the community. You will help maintain food safety, sanitation, and occupational safety in the kitchen.

The role involves preparing meals, packaging, sanitation, and inventory tasks, with opportunities to contribute to program outcomes and operate in a fast-paced food service environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of experience in a commercial kitchen.
• Must be organized and detail-oriented.
• Ability to push, pull, and lift equipment/food up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to take direction and feedback.
• Basic computer skills; ability to work independently and in a team.

Responsibilities

• Food Prep – adhere to food safety and recipe guidelines to safely prepare food items; ensure HACCP compliance.
• Meal Packaging – maintain consistency and quality of prepared meals; ensure IDA compliance and safe manufacturing procedures.
• Sanitation Management – keep a clean workstation and assist the sanitation team as needed.
• Inventory Control – assist with receiving and management of FIFO, and organization of storage areas.
• Other duties as assigned

A member of the Chicago's Community Kitchens (CCK) Team who supports the production, packaging, and distribution of prepared meals for our community. The Food Production Assistant helps to maintain food safety and sanitation, as well as occupational safety in the kitchen.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Food Prep – adhere to food safety and recipe guidelines to safely prepare food items; ensure compliance with HACCP and sanitation procedures
• Meal Packaging – maintain consistency and quality of prepared meals; guarantee IDA compliance and safe manufacturing procedures at all times
• Sanitation Management – keep a clean workstation and assist the sanitation team as needed
• Inventory Control – assist with receiving and management of FIFO, along with detailed organization of storage areas
• Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum 2 years of experience in a commercial kitchen
• Food Handler Sanitation Certification or ability to pass test for certification
• Ability to push, pull, and lift equipment and food containers that weigh up to 50 pounds
• Must be organized and detail-oriented
• Ability to take direction and feedback
• Basic computer skills
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
• High energy and motivated, with a positive attitude
• Ability to problem solve

EXPOSURE

• Commercial kitchen environment, including freezer/refrigerator temperatures
• Warehouse exposure as needed
• Walking/standing for long periods of time, up to 4 hours at a time
