Job summary

PastryStar is seeking a hands-on Food Processing Engineer / Continuous Improvement Specialist to lead projects across pastry manufacturing and the upcoming plant expansion. You will document processes, support equipment selection and validation, and drive efficiency for kettle and mixer operations.

The role requires strong problem-solving, cross-functional collaboration, and a focus on safety and GMP compliance to elevate production quality and throughput at our Laurel, MD facility.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or master's degree in industrial engineering or food processing preferred; equivalent hands-on manufacturing experience may be considered.
• Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in food manufacturing, process engineering, continuous improvement, or related roles.
• Experience in bakery, pastry, ingredient manufacturing, food processing, or GMP environments is highly desirable.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, production equipment, process flow, quality standards, and food safety practices.
• Knowledge of GMP requirements, sanitation, food safety, and quality documentation in food production.

Responsibilities

• Lead manufacturing improvement initiatives to reduce waste, improve flow, and enhance productivity.
• Support project management for a new manufacturing plant buildout and equipment validation.
• Document, standardize, and optimize SOPs, work instructions, and training materials.
• Collaborate with QA, maintenance, and operations to ensure GMP and safety standards are met.
• Develop dashboards and reporting to monitor performance and drive continuous improvement.
