Job summary

ICNA Relief USA Programs Inc in Glendale Heights, IL, is hiring a Food Pantry Assistant for full-time work to support day-to-day pantry operations and client service with a focus on accuracy and compassion. The role requires a High School Diploma or GED and at least two years' pantry experience, clear communication, teamwork, and basic Word/Excel skills.

Duties include inventory, restocking, coordinating donations, and assisting volunteers.

Qualifications

  • Ability to take and give directions in a non-threatening manner.
  • Excellent work habits: punctual, reliable and cooperative.
  • Ability to drive a cargo van and load and unload items of various weight.
  • Must possess a current valid MN Driver's License

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for inventory of donated food, sorting food, and restocking shelves.
  • Daily restocking and unloading food to and from storage containers, walk-in refrigerator and freezer.
  • Assist with the setup of all food distributions.
  • Responsible for assisting volunteers and donors unload their vehicles.
  • Weigh all food items when brought to the agency; complete log in form, inventory donations and provide receipts to donors.
  • Keep the workplace, shelves, walk-in refrigerator and freezer, pallet area neat including cleaning and sanitizing tables, carts, refrigerators/freezers, as well a sweeping and mopping floors.
  • Pick-up food donations from local markets driving agency van.
  • Assist with client check-in and bagging of food as needed.
  • Maintain safe and sanitary condition of all distribution sites including cleaning and sanitizing tables and carts, sweeping and mopping the floors, as well as dispose of garbage and cardboard.

Job Summary:

This position will focus on the day-to-day operation of the specific ICNA Relief pantry

The Food Pantry Assistant will perform in total compliance with the policies and procedures introduced and adhered to by ICNA Relief under the direct supervision of the Food Pantry Coordinator. The Assistant to Hunger Prevention program is expected to set personal examples and demonstrate high standards of service delivery and customer care to all stakeholders of ICNA Relief

Work environment and Physical Requirements:

  • Work is performed both indoor and outside environments.
  • Daily work occurs in varying temperatures, which include heat and rain.
  • Standing, reaching, lifting and bending.
  • Ability to repeatedly lift a minimum of 50 lbs. and manipulate heavy objects.
  • Requires Standing and/or lifting 80% of the time.
  • Requires work on computer 5%-10% of time.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

Employee must be available during the “core” work hours starting from 9:00 a.m. to 6 p.m., including weekends. Occasional evening work may be required.
