Job summary

Catholic Charities of Omaha is seeking a Pantry Operations Assistant in Omaha, NE. The role loads, delivers, and inventories pantry items, using forklifts, pallet jacks, and a 26' truck to support neighborhood pantries and clients.

You will handle intake, weigh and record donations, enter data into the pantry management system, and assist with outreach and daily operations while maintaining safety and confidentiality in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • One year of experience in retail, pantry or warehouse stocking/inventory.
  • High school Diploma or equivalent.
  • On-site locations: Bedford Avenue, South 31st Street and Emmet Street.

Responsibilities

  • Enter, maintain, and report operations data using computer software.
  • Prepare food packages and assist with intake of clients.
  • Operate forklifts and pallet jacks; drive a 26' truck.
  • Receive, weigh, record and organize food from donors and vendors.

Position Summary

The Pantry Operations Assistant receives, loads, transports, delivers, and unloads items to neighborhood pantries, clients, and community partners. Distributes large quantities of food items using a forklift, pallet jack, and large vehicles. Provides logistical support for pantries and assists with inventory, scheduling, and maintaining pantry operations. Aids in pantry preparation, distribution, weighing, stocking, recording, and reporting of food donations and distributions. Assists pantry coordinator in the daily operation of the pantry as well as mobile food pantries.

Responsibilities:
  • Use computer software to enter, maintain, and report operations data.
  • Assist with preparation of food packages for clients, receiving donations, sorting and stocking food, and help pantry clients with intakes, as needed.
  • Operate forklifts and pallet jacks to move large food loads and drive large trucks (up to 26-feet) to distribute food.
  • Receive, record/report and unload, weigh, and organize food from appropriate vendors, donors, and the food bank.
  • Maintain cleanliness, order, and safety in all pantry areas, including pantry equipment.
  • Assist with loading, transporting, delivering, and unloading items to Catholic Charities pantries , storage locations, clients, community partners, and from food service organizations in a safe, courteous, and timely manner.
  • Assist in pantry logistical duties such as managing inventory, scheduling/receiving food donations, loading/unloading refrigerated trailers, and planning outreach handling and deliveries.
  • Welcome clients, conduct intake, verify documentation and enter or update client profiles, in our pantry management database.
  • Answer incoming inquiries regarding pantry services and hours and provide info on other programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned including but not limited to:
  • Reliable attendance is an expectation.
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Strong attention to detail and data entry skills.
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with diverse clientele and exhibit compassionate customer service skills.
  • Excellent organizational and logistical skills.
  • Ability to move/handle heavy pallets.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle and have a valid driver's license
  • Ability or willingness to learn how to operate forklifts and drive a 26' truck.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and pay close attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow directions and work independently.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate with program staff, volunteers, and other agency staff
  • Sensitivity to all low-income persons and other disadvantaged persons with multi-cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to perform work in a manner that protects client confidentiality

Required of All Positions:

  • Ability to demonstrate sensitivity to the service population's cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
Work Experience and Education Level
  • One year of experience working in a retail store, pantry or warehouse setting, stocking or inventorying merchandise.
  • Previous customer service experience helpful.
  • High school Diploma or Equivalent
  • On-site at 9223 Bedford Avenue, 5211 South 31 st Street and 2111 Emmet Street
  • Monday-Friday
  • 8a-5p with some variation.
