Job summary

Primrose School of Manhattan at East 82nd Street is seeking a School Kitchen & Facilities Assistant to support both our kitchen and operations teams, providing a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for children and staff daily. The role offers a steady Monday–Friday schedule (10:00 AM–6:30 PM) with no nights, weekends, or holidays, starting at $22/hour based on experience and education.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required.
• NY Food Protection Certification (Food Handler’s Certificate) required.
• CPR / First Aid certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Chef with plating and delivering nutritious meals to classrooms and staff.
• Maintain kitchen cleanliness and organization; wash dishes as needed.
• Check food deliveries, restock supplies, and ensure all items meet safety standards.
• Step in to support kitchen operations when the Chef is out.
• Partner with the Facilities Coordinator to keep the building safe and well-stocked.
• Refill consumables and complete daily safety checks.
• Maintain organization in the laundry room and assist with laundry rotation.
• Cover the front desk, greet families, and answer phones as needed.
• Assist teachers during lunch and break periods.
• Help with light administrative duties such as copying, filing, or setting up materials.

What You’ll Do

Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 35 lbs and support active school operations

Required Qualifications and Experience

• High School Diploma required
• Food Handler’s Certificate required
• CPR / First Aid certification preferred
• Previous teaching experience preferred
• Knowledge of the social, emotional and creative needs of young children
• Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs. in connection with the handling of children for the facilitation of programs, child safety, and potential emergency situations. Must be able to properly lift infants into and out of a crib.
• Employee must be at least 21 years of age.
