Job summary

Farmington Country Club in Charlottesville, VA is seeking an Event Operations Intern for Summer 2027 in the Food and Beverage department. The internship focuses on learning the operations of event management within a large, private club environment and supporting daily event execution.

The program includes hands-on experience across set-up, service and breakdown, with leadership responsibilities assigned as the internship progresses, plus participation in multiple educational workshops and HR

Qualifications

  • Current enrollment in a college degree program in hospitality management or similar academic field.
  • Previous experience working or training in food and beverage service at a private club preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Gain exposure to all areas of the Event Operations department in a large private club setting.
  • Assist in set-up, service and break-down of events and take on leadership responsibilities later in the internship.
  • Participate in workshops and training sessions (First Aid/CPR/AED, beverage service, and department-specific trainings).

Job Title: Event Operations Intern

Reports To: Event Operations Manager, Assistant Director of Food and Beverage

Training Opportunities

The Event Operations Intern will be exposed to all areas of the Event Operations department in a large, private club environment, to supplement an academic program in hospitality management or related field. The intern will develop and demonstrate knowledge through a series of trainings and structured conversations with managers. The Event Operations Intern will spend the majority of the summer learning the operation with involvement in the set-up, service and break-down of a variety of events. Towards the conclusion of the internship, the Intern will be assigned several leadership responsibilities within the operation. In addition to the in-depth training within the Event Department, interns will also have the opportunity to participate in various educational program opportunities, such as:

  • Farmington Country Club Orientation & Historical Tour
  • Attendance to CMAA Education Session & Club Tour
  • Meeting(s) with General Manager/COO and Assistant General Manager to discuss career goals and ask questions
  • Opportunity to shadow & work in other departments
  • Various Workshops throughout the summer:
    • Resume/Cover Letter Workshop and Employment Law Workshop with Director of HR
    • Beverage Workshops & trainings with Beverage Managers
    • Golf & Racquets Workshops with the Head Golf Pro and Head Racquets Pro
    • Finance Workshop with Head of Finance
    • Governance Workshop with the Assistant General Manager
    • Communications Workshop with Director of Communications
    • Membership Workshop with Director of Membership
    • Culinary Operations Workshop with Executive Chef
  • Attend various meetings that would be beneficial to the intern’s development
  • Bi-Weekly meetings with direct manager and/or internship program facilitator for on-going feedback and goal setting
  • Participate in club-sponsored training offered during the internship period, which may include: Safety Certification Training (First Aid, CPR, AED) and Safe Beverage Service Training (TIPS)
Training Program Evaluation:

There will be ongoing conversations about the intern’s performance throughout the summer. The intern will be given a 30-60-90 day reviews, with the 90 day review being the final review conducted at the conclusion of the program.These reviews are designed to provide constructive feedback and in conjunction with the scheduled bi-weekly supervisory meetings, to encourage a structured learning environment. At the conclusion of the training program, interns, together with the supervising manager, review and evaluate the internship experience and its applicability to the interns’ future career goals.

Housing:

Farmington provides fully furnished apartments to interns on a space-available basis, which they share with other interns. A weekly payroll deduction covers each intern’s use of the apartment.
