Qualifications

Job description

The Study at the University of Chicago in the beautiful Hyde Park neighborhood is currently seeking a full-time Food and Beverage Manager with open availability. We are looking for a flexible leader who can efficiently manage a front-of-house team and support change.

The front of house Food & Beverage team provides genuine hospitality and the highest quality of service to our guests. The ideal candidate enjoys entertaining, meeting new people, and has an engaging, vibrant personality that thrives in a team environment.

Responsibilities
  1. Provide the highest and most efficient level of hospitality and customer service expected by our guests.
  2. Ensure that the hospitality and service standards set forth by Study Hotels' operating principles are consistently implemented.
  3. Supervise all aspects of the hotel's food and beverage operations: restaurant, lounge, to-go area, room service, and banquets.
  4. Ensure that all food and beverage operations are prepared accordingly, clean, collected & service ready.
  5. Engage and supervise Front-of-House team members, set clear expectations, and establish accountability in a team setting.
  6. Create and support a positive working environment that promotes curiosity, teamwork, and fosters growth.
  7. Oversee daily activities such as side work, purchasing, and receiving daily inventories.
  8. Check beverage purchases for proper ordering and pricing structures.
  9. Ensure beverage costs are appropriately controlled.
  10. Work with the management team to establish thriving food and beverage marketing programs, artfully leverage revenue management, driving profit to the bottom line with solid financial control.
  11. Oversee PAR stock levels and ensure they are adequately maintained to prevent shortages or overages resulting in spoilage and dead stock.
  12. Comply with all federal, state, and local legal requirements, including food safety certification.
  13. Ensure application of procedures and regulations to staff concerning hygiene and sanitation, fire and safety, and emergency protocols.
  14. Responsible for Beverage Inventory, Payroll, Schedules and other tasks delegated by Food & Beverage Director.

Fundamentals
  1. Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  2. Experience: 3+ years of related experience in a fine dining or upscale casual environment and recently employed in a restaurant management position.
  3. Certifications: ServSafe and Basset Alcohol Training.
  4. Must be able to delegate, set priorities, utilize a team to execute short and long-term plans, and establish accountability in a team setting.
  5. Flexibility to work any shift, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  6. Excellent verbal and written interpersonal communication skills.
  7. Proficiency in English required. A second language is desirable.
  8. Strong organizational skills, including follow-up, time management, multitasking, and managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  9. Ability to positively communicate and interact with all hotel departments.
  10. Ability to grasp, lift and or carry, or otherwise, move goods weighing a maximum of 100 lbs.
  11. Ability to stand for long periods indoors with a thematically climate-controlled workstation.
  12. Satisfactory completion of background check.
  13. Study Hotels is a drug-free workplace.
