Retail Representative (Food & Beverage)

Reports To: Captain and Sales Representative Supervisor
Category: Non-Exempt
Salary Range:$18.00 per hour
Work Location: Portage Lake

Position Summary

The Retail Representative (Food & Beverage) plays a vital role in creating a welcoming and enjoyable guest experience aboard the M/V Ptarmigan. This position is responsible for serving packaged snacks, beverages, and alcoholic drinks; processing retail and ticket transactions; and maintaining a clean, organized, and guest‑ready counter area throughout daily sailings.

The ideal candidate enjoys engaging with guests in a fast-paced maritime environment, demonstrates strong attention to detail, and takes pride in supporting smooth vessel operations through teamwork and exceptional service. This position requires a current Alaska Alcohol Server Training Card and Food Handler's Permit prior to or upon employment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Serve packaged snacks, beverages, and alcoholic drinks in compliance with all food safety and alcohol service regulations.
  • Accurately process retail, beverage, and ticket transactions using the point-of-sale system.
  • Greet guests warmly and provide friendly, efficient, and professional customer service throughout the cruise.
  • Stock, rotate, and display retail merchandise and beverages to ensure proper presentation and inventory management.
  • Work in coordination with deckhands to maintain a clean, organized vessel between sailings, including the retail counter, seating areas, and trash removal.
  • Follow established point-of-sale, cash handling, and inventory control procedures.
  • Support daily opening and closing duties, including restocking and preparing for upcoming sailings.
  • Collaborate closely with the Captain, vessel crew, and fellow team members to ensure smooth operations and high guest satisfaction.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive motions.
  • Ability to bend, reach, and lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Work is performed aboard a vessel in a fast-paced maritime environment with exposure to varying weather conditions.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and potential overtime during the tourism season.
Qualifications
