Job summary

Sofidel America in Elwood, IL is seeking a Machine Operator to join our team on a long-term basis. Local candidates are preferred for a 12-hour rotating shift in a stable environment, contributing to a safety-focused, lean manufacturing culture.

The role requires interpreting safety and operation documents, monitoring control panels, and ensuring product quality. You will support daily quality reporting and collaborate with QA, maintenance, and supervision while training other operators.

Qualifications

• Must have basic computer skills and be able to interpret safety rules and operating documents.
• Ability to analyze manufacturing operations and perform capacity analysis.

Responsibilities

• Support GMP and HACCP to promote a safe, sanitary workplace.
• Apply customer specifications to machine operation to ensure compliant finished goods.
• Program and monitor the computerized control panel and make math-based adjustments.
• Initiate setup, operation, and adjustment of folding and downstream equipment to meet quota.
• Perform hourly quality checks and submit daily quality reports to QA.
• Monitor product changeovers with Rapid Changeover Technicians.
• Maintain open communication with QA, maintenance, and supervision.
• Train and monitor other machine operators.
• Demonstrate leadership on a regular basis.
• Work a 12-hour rotating shift (days/nights) including weekends and holidays.
• Keep work area clean and organized following lean principles.
• Perform other duties as required to maintain workflow.

Job Responsibilities

• Support Sofidel America’s Good Manufacturing Practices and HACCP to promote a safe, sanitary, and hygienically sound workplace.
• Understand and apply customer specifications to the operation of the machine to ensure finished goods comply with customer requirements.
• Program and monitor the computerized operating panel if applicable. Calculate mathematical conversions to ensure proper standards are met for each product.
• Initiate set up, operations, and adjustment of folding equipment and any downstream equipment to achieve established production quota.
• Perform hourly quality checks to ensure the accuracy of the production runs and the submittal of daily quality reports to the QA department.
• Monitor and perform product changeovers in conjunction with the Rapid Changeover Technicians (RCO Techs).
• Ensure regular and open communications with quality, maintenance, and supervision.
• Train and monitor the activity of the other employees on the machine.
• Demonstrate leadership skills on a regular, consistent basis.
• Work the 12-hour rotating shift requirement.
• Keep the work area clean and organized while following the lean initiatives.

Other Responsibilities May Include:

• Perform or assist with any operations, as required to maintain workflow and to meet schedules and quality requirements. Notify supervision of unusual equipment or operating problems and the need for additional materials and supplies.
• Maintain a safe work area and comply with safety procedures and equipment operating rules keeping the work area in a clean and orderly condition.
• Participate in any variety of meetings and work groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems, and maintain specified levels of knowledge pertaining to new developments, requirements, policies, and regulatory guidelines.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

• Must be able to work on a 12-hour rotating shift schedule, Including days, nights, weekends, holiday, and occasional overtime.
• High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED); and/or previous relevant experience is preferred.
• Must be able to interpret documents regarding safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, along with quality and procedure manuals.
• Must be able to analyze manufacturing operations and perform capacity analysis to identify obstructions.
• Must possess basic computer skills.
• Must demonstrate the ability to promote a safe working environment.
