Job summary

The United States Department of Justice, Office of Information Policy in Washington, DC, is seeking experienced attorneys to support FOIA compliance, policy development, and open government initiatives. As Attorney-Advisors (GS-12/13/14 with potential to GS-15), you will draft reports, provide legal advice, and engage agencies on FOIA obligations.

This position requires a J.D. degree and active bar membership; security clearance and relocation limitations may apply.

Qualifications

• J.D. degree and active bar membership in any U.S. jurisdiction.
• Preferred: knowledge of FOIA and administrative law.
• GS-13 requires at least one year of FOIA experience; GS-14 requires at least two years.

Responsibilities

• Interpret and apply FOIA laws, orders, regulations, precedents and agency practices.
• Support FOIA compliance efforts, policy development, and FOIA.gov initiatives.
• Draft annual FOIA reports and related department-wide reports.
• Review agency FOIA submissions and prepare annual summaries and assessments.
• Engage with agencies to address FOIA inquiries and provide guidance.
• Assist in managing DOJ FOIA-related websites and social media content.
• Conduct legal research and provide legal advice on FOIA-related inquiries.
