Job Description
- Prepare and review documents in accordance with the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and Privacy Act (PA).
- Process and document FOIA and PA requests for organizational records.
- Interpret regulations, agency enforcement codes, and organizational policies regarding document release.
- Ensure released materials do not contain personal identifiers or reveal trade secrets and other exempt information.
- Review completed requests for appropriateness of materials to be released or withheld.
- Make redactions as needed before release.
- Compose response letters, clarify requests, negotiate response times, and make recommendations on fees and fee waivers.
- Coordinate with program offices on searches for responsive documents.
- Negotiate with record submitters and requestors to clarify requests and make release determinations.
- Understand US government and FAA procedures for handling, protecting, reviewing, and releasing CUI, PII, and PHI.
- Assist in training and developing Specialist staff.
- Contribute to the review and development of FAA FOIA processing procedures and efficiencies.
Job Requirements
- Ability to obtain a public trust clearance.
- Bachelor’s Degree in an information management-related field or equivalent experience.
- At least one year of relevant FOIA-related experience; training provided by QualX.
- Experience with case analysis, FOIA reviews, processing appeals, or FOIA litigation activities.
- Experience in identifying and protecting CUI, PII, and PHI.
- Knowledge of the nine FOIA Disclosure Exemptions and processing procedures.
Preferred Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and FOIAXpress.
- Strong analytical skills, reading comprehension, and attention to detail.
- Ability to multitask, work in a team, and adapt to work patterns and processes.
- Exceptional leadership and communication skills, both oral and written.
