Aretum is seeking a Senior FOIA Analyst/Project Manager to lead our efforts in managing Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests for government clients. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in FOIA processing and project management, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timeliness in delivering responses. You will be responsible for overseeing the entire FOIA project lifecycle, from receiving requests to compiling information and preparing final responses for the agency.

In this role, you will collaborate closely with various teams, including legal, compliance, and operational departments, to facilitate effective FOIA processing. As a Senior FOIA Analyst/Project Manager, you will provide strategic guidance and support to improve FOIA operations and enhance transparency in government processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the FOIA request process, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and providing timely responses to requests.
  • Oversee team performance and provide training and mentorship to junior analysts on FOIA processes and best practices.
  • Conduct thorough reviews of documents to determine responsiveness and appropriateness for release under FOIA guidelines.
  • Develop and maintain FOIA policies and procedures, as well as track and report on FOIA activities and statistics.
  • Work closely with legal counsel to determine proper responses to FOIA requests and any potential exemptions that may apply.
  • Collaborate with various departments to gather and analyze information related to FOIA requests.
  • Five (5) years of project management experience, including responsibility for overseeing a project team and facilitating coordination and assignment of resources. Previous experience with management of day-to-day contract performance and personnel.
  • Five (5) years of experience interpreting and applying the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), the Privacy Act (PA) 1974, as amended, as well as related laws, regulations, policies, and procedures to render a determination to grant access to records.
  • Two (2) years of experience processing FOIA requests using automation such as eDiscovery tools.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or an equivalent.
  • Bachelor’s degree in one of the following fields or related studies:
  • Business Administration, Computer/Data Science, History, Information/Data/Knowledge Management, International Affairs/Relations, Law, Library/Information Science, Management Information Systems, Paralegal Studies, Philosophy, Public Administration
  • Experience with Microsoft Office software (Access, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
  • Working Knowledge and Experience with FOIA and Privacy Act of 1974
